DATE:2024-03-05 】

On the afternoon of November 1, The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences held the 2023 Symposium on Globally-visioned Young Mentor Team Building and International Talent Cultivation. The meeting was attended by An Zhefeng, Secretary of the CPC Committee of the Faculty, Tang Jun, Director of the Faculty, Chen Hao, Deputy Director of the Faculty, Chen Chen, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of the Faculty, young faculty members in the lists of globally-visioned young mentors in 2021 and 2022, as well as relevant staff from the Office of Foreign Exchange, Cooperation and Information Technology Construction. The symposium was chaired by Chen Hao.

Firstly, Chen Hao gave a detailed introduction to the team of globally-visioned young mentors in the Faculty, an overview of international talent cultivation and the tasks of globally-visioned young mentors, covering the measures, projects, and achievements of the Faculty's international talent cultivation. Then, Chen Chen offered a comprehensive introduction on the situation of undergraduate and graduate students from the Faculty going abroad for further education in the past six years. Both of them hope that the globally-visioned young mentors can leverage their expertise to contribute to building an international platform and cultivating international talents for the Faculty.

Ge Ling, a teacher from the College of Social Work, as the representative of the 2020 Globally-visioned Young Mentor, reported her work in providing personalized guidance for students to participate in long- and short-term programs, building a diverse international atmosphere in the class, and her understanding of current international exchange and cooperation. Professor Zhang Youliang from the Institute of Higher Education introduced his experience and gains as a visiting professor in Hong Kong, with a focus on promoting deep cooperation between Lingnan University of Hong Kong and Chinese mainland universities, including the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of BJUT. He also shared some of his reflections on promoting international cooperation.

Subsequently, Tang Jun, from the perspective of his own overseas experience as a visiting scholar, pointed out that international background can play a very positive role in talent cultivation, and the work of globally-visioned young mentors is therefore of great significance and value. Tang said that globally-visioned young mentors should serve as considerate guides, committed to building bridges for the two-way international exchanges. In addition to “sending” local students out to overseas institutions, we should also “draw” in international students, in a bid to cultivate more international talents with broad perspectives, inclusive spirit, diverse qualities, and good adaptability.

Finally, An Zhefeng made a concluding speech. An hopes that globally-visioned young mentors can give full play to their expertise, support the growth of the Faculty, and contribute to making it better and stronger. The Faculty will take advantage of its large number of language faculty members and faculty members with international backgrounds, leveraging its international cultural heritage, expanding international education channels, strengthening cooperation on international programs and seeking international achievements. While conducting multidimensional international exchanges and cooperation, we must abide by the rules of international exchange and work out mechanisms for international exchange and development.

Globally-visioned young mentors are the mainstay in the construction and development of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Faculty will continue its efforts to build a team of globally-visioned young mentors, relying on the “World-class Employment Guidance Office" to implement the "Program 123", which means holding “one meeting for experience exchange”, implementing the "dual entry" work system, and building the "three brand campaigns", to increase the rate of graduates going abroad for further studies and the rate of students participating in short-term exchange programs.
