In recent years, with the development and transformation of universities, more and more attention has been paid to how to run high-level application-oriented universities. In order to improve the theoretical level of faculty and students in education and understand the difficulties and challenges faced by the development of application-oriented universities, on the afternoon of December 23, 2021, the Institute of Higher Education, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences specially invited Professor Guo Jianru from the Graduate School of Education, Peking University to give an academic lecture titled "Construction of High-level application-oriented Universities: From the Perspective of Strategic Management". This lecture was presided over by Su Linqin, Dean of Institute of Higher Education, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and attended online by faculty and students of related disciplines of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The lecture focuses on what is a high-level application-oriented university, its development stage and system construction, and its resource base, connotation development and environment construction. Content: What is strategy? Taking the 14th Five-Year Plan of Peking University as an example, the significance and importance of the strategy are clarified. The environmental changes affect the orientation and system construction of application-oriented colleges and universities, and we shall clarify the historical basis of application-oriented colleges and universities, rationally divide the development stages and clarify the historical tasks, so as to further determine the development goals of application-oriented universities, open up the development pattern and conduct the internal and external connection and two-way circulation. From the perspective of resource security, conduct the resource base and innovative development. From the perspective of "strategic management", Professor Guo Jianru expounded the changes of application-oriented universities brought about by the current policies and social development, and emphasized that the resource base and regional development strategy shall be integrated according to their own characteristics and positioning, and the attention should be paid to the environmental reconstruction of university population and regional ecology.

Professor Guo Jianru, with simple language, integrating theory with practice and academic knowledge with life, gave us a valuable lecture in an easy-to-understand way. This was not only a feast of academic exchange, but also a high-quality theoretical course. At the end of the lecture, faculty members Li Lan and Wang Chao discussed in depth how to implement the strategy in high-level application-oriented universities with Professor Guo Jianru, so as to help everyone deeply understand and learn the problems faced by high-level application-oriented universities in reality.

Finally, Dean Su Linqin encouraged everyone to learn theory, understand the reality of education, and integrate theory with practice. Faculty and students of the Institute of Higher Education deepened their theoretical understanding and broadened their academic horizons in this lecture.
